Oh my, I wrote a post about how I'm coming back to blogging quite some time ago and I didn't! That's disappointing, but I have a somewhat of an explanation to that - we were working on our new website and it's here! :) I was thinking should I announce it today, because I'm still working on a German version of it, but I just couldn't wait any longer! The English version is here and the German one will be same just, well, in German :)
I hope you all like it and find helpful.

I also know that this time of the year is big in engagements, so I hope the couples will consider a wedding in Mediterranean Croatia!

Dalmatia is famous for its lavender, especially the island of Hvar. I've always thought that getting married in the Mediterranean (Dalmatia included :) it is a great and beautiful idea to have a bouquet, representing the beauty of the region, the smell of the summer and the unique nature. I've found these couple of great examples of a simple, but unique bridal wedding bouquet from lavender and have to admit - I'd recommend this style for any bride looking for the Mediterranean wedding experience. Would you have a lavender bouquet?

It's so not true that you have to buy expensive decor items and spend loads of money to have your wedding originally styled. The wedding media is buzzing for quite some time with the DIY (do it yourself) ideas and many of the designs can be made by you and your friends easier than it seems. So, if you're planning a laid-back, vintage, rustic, outdoor wedding - here are some ideas I've stumbled upon browsing Etsy website.

1. Personalized Birch Bark Wood Napkin Rings. Simple, down to earth, naturalistic, very lovely to make items. Don't start peeling the bark from some random tree though - you can get the material in almost any handy/tool/home-ware store.

2. Chalkboard Heart Centerpiece Decorations. Very vintage, very easy. All you need is a chalkboard paper, a friend who can draw hearts or any other shapes and a piece of chalk! Voila!

3. Book paper garland hearts. These ones are my favorites. If you have some old, damaged books, which have lived their days, a pair of scissors, couple of other office supplies - you're good to go!

4. Paper Pom Poms. Get some colorful tissue paper and read this great How To guide. These pom poms are great not just for the weddings, but any other parties as well.

Who doesn't know Vera Wang? Even those totally not connected to the wedding world must have heard her name, so there is no reason to present this world's most famous wedding gown designer. In her Fall 2012 bridal collection Vera has presented these unusual cream/beige and black gowns (well - that's unusual for a wedding dress, isn't it?). It takes courage not to wear white/ivory on your wedding day, but if the bride wants to stand out - these are a great choice!

Today the sun is shining and there isn't a single cloud here in Split, Croatia. What a lovely November! The north of the country is already getting some minus temperatures, but here we're enjoying an average of +15-19 degrees during the day.
Anyway, today my post is not about the weather, but about the WEDDING CAKES. Even though the grape vintage is over (even most of the olive picking is over as well!) I could not hold myself from sharing this photo of beautiful grapes. I took the picture a year ago during the grape vintage, unfortunately making the wine for the first time in my life did not bring satisfactory results! Was fun though :)

My dear readers,

every time I open the site traffic statistics page I get pleasantly surprised of the numbers. I admit that I haven't been working on this blog as much as I should, but I have a great excuse - I am working on some original and amazing stuff this spring-summer so I simply do not have that much time. I can't tell you what exactly is the stuff I am working on (except on preparations for the free couples photo shoot), but you will see the first sweet results in couple of months both here and the website.

Anyway, I am not planning to stop writing the blog, maybe I will do it just a little bit less, but hey - summer is just around the corner, we are all busy with work or holidays, or WEDDINGS :)

New wedding blog: need for support and cooperation

I just got an e-mail from a new blogger asking to support the new wedding site. It is very fresh and new, does not contain much information yet (well, almost none for the moment to be honest), but I know from my experience that in blogging the beginning is the hardest, so it is my pleasure to help to promote and help for the new site here.

As much as I see, if you are a vendor, you can get featured in the blog for free. It obviously doesn't have many visitors at the moment, but who knows what the future holds... :)

I am also intrigued by the e-magazine in plan, it would be exciting if it would see the daylight one day, so if you are a vendor, you should take a look at this site. I will keep my eye on it just to track the development... All in all - I am a total wedding blog fan and cannot spend my day without checking at least those that I am following. :)

New York fashion week is always amazing. I would loooove to have a chance to see at least some of the shows live..One day! Brac

The island of Brac is the highest and third largest island in the Adriatic Sea. The island is well known for its quality stone used to build many palaces. This is the island with the only stone mason school in Croatia.

Hvar

South of Brac lies Hvar, the longest island in the Adriatic. This is an island of vineyards, olive groves and lavender. Hvar is without a doubt an exceptional island. It is characterized by pleasant winter and summer resorts, mild climate and abundant subtropical vegetation.

Personalizing the destination wedding

While from the first sight it might seem that personalizing the destination wedding and making it original, individual and close to the hear can be a challenge, reality and a good wedding planner can help fulfill your wishes and dreams to the fullest.

And it is not about the quantity, but about the quality of the personalized items, the ideas and their realization. For me a good design and styling of the wedding is very important. And the destination wedding design should show and represent the spirit, the culture of the location, but as well the personalities of the bride and groom.

Items to consider:

1. Bouquets and other decoration from local flowers and items

2. Destination related invitations (you could also create a website with all the destination wedding related information to make it easier for the guests and for you)

3. Destination related welcome greeting for the arriving guests (drinks, snacks, nice gift baggies, get-to-know the place packages etc.)

4. Destination related seating cards, ceremony and reception programs, menus....

5. Localized ceremony markers (for beach, mountain, boat, palaces and other themed wedding ceremonies) and decorations

6. Destination related food and drinks

7. Don't forget some special and thank you and have a good trip home baggies and later - thank you cards!

Hey guys. I am starting the series of the Croatian Wedding locations in this blog. I am sure that you can get positively surprised of what you find out and hopefully get interested and maybe even plan your special day here. One couple chose to have their dream wedding on a private beach in Croatia and followed it up with an idyllic honeymoon in the country.

Suzanne Sarkis and Luke Croxford wanted an intimate and relaxed ceremony with two of their oldest friends as witnesses, reports the Sydney Morning Herald.

They selected a remote spot on the beautiful coast of Hvar, an Adriatic island located just a few miles from Croatia's Dalmatian coast.

"Having no one else around meant that we could just focus on us and the enormity of what we were doing," the bride tells the publication.

Croatia's peace and tranquility, as well as its scenery and natural, unspoilt look, made it the obvious choice for their honeymoon too.

With a short trip across the Adriatic to Italy thrown in for good measure, the couple enjoyed a romantic break in the historic country.

2011 wedding color trends!

If you are thinking which colors are going to be in next year, I'm giving you the full palettes to choose! The palettes are taken and adapted from a wonderful site Mypersonalartist by Michele Mospens.

For the next summer season and especially for the beach and Mediterranean style wedding I would suggest the brighter orange, yellow or purple colors as an extension of the nature beauties such as oleanders, lavenders or sun. But if you are thinking about a fall wedding - the rich, dark burgundy, grape, chocolate or olive colors can become the best accent of the wedding.

"Idea of the week": book the venues on a working day

I have decided, besides the other future topics, once a week to post an "Idea of the week". Short advice on wedding planning, food, invitations, clothing or any other details - everything that could be useful for the couple, planning their destination wedding.

This weeks idea is about booking the venues.

Since you are getting married abroad, you don't have to choose the weekend for your big day.

BOOK THE VENUES ON A WORKING DAY.

Churches, special areas, palaces, galleries etc. are usually booked by the locals for most of the weekends, especially during the spring and summer seasons. You will have much better chances to get the desired venue if you book it on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. You can try Sunday and Friday as well - holds better chances than any Saturday.

First steps to plan the destination wedding

I've been thinking for quite a while, what should be my first blog post. And then the answer came so easy and simple - I have to start from the beginning! What other topic could be a better for a couple, just about to start planning their special day, than what their first steps should be?

So, the first and the most important thing to do immediately after you decide upon the wedding date is to choose your wedding destination and BOOK THE VENUES.

1. Decide on the country and the place you want to have your wedding in. If you are interested in getting married in Croatia, check out the post before.

2. Confirm the date and contact your wedding planner in that country / area. Choose a planner who lives there and has direct access to the venues and other services - it means he or she can offer you a broader choice of wedding detail options.

3. Calculate the number of the guests. You have to have more or less accurate number of the guests in order to book a convenient venue. The number can vary minimally throughout the planning period, but be sure there will be no major changes, e.g. the number from 30 rises to 60 etc.

4. Ask the planner to give you all possible information about the locations and venues for the wedding. Take your time to go through all that information, discuss it, ask more questions if you have any and make the decision. Decide do you want your ceremony and reception be at the same place. If you intend to party until the next morning - you will most probably have to have the reception in some other venue, because many historic or public places do not allow celebrations after midnight or 1 a.m.

5. Now this here is the tricky part - you can't decide too soon, but you cannot postpone it too long as well, because all the special locations get booked very soon. Get your booking ASAP after you choose. Make a "B" choice, in case your first choice will be taken.

6. If you want a beach wedding, you can have the ceremony and reception at the same place. Of course, if you want to combine - it is totally up to you. Anyway, inform your wedding planner about your decision no matter what it is.

7. After you book the venues you can take a deep breath and take a few days off. Till the next step - booking the places to stay for you and the guests during the wedding period.

8. Decide how many days your "wedding trip" will last. Will you come day or two before? A week before? Do you want to have a rehearsal dinner? Do you want to stay longer? Maybe you will stay for the honey moon and your guests will leave sooner? Answer all the questions and write down all the dates. If you need any guidance or advice - ask your wedding planner.

9. Decide where do you and your guests want to stay. Hotel? Private apartments? A villa? For a bigger amount of guests a hotel is more convenient, but if it is a smaller and more intimate wedding, you can choose a villa for a cozy stay together. Ask your wedding planner for the accommodation options, advice and make your decision. The sooner you book - the calmer you are.

10. So, you have your venues and your accommodation. What is left? Rehearsal dinner - if you want it in some special location, ask your wedding planner for the options and guidance about the booking. It is possible that you don't need to book it so much in advance, but if you can deal with it now - reserve the venue immediately.

11. I think I know what you are still wondering. The transportation! Most likely you will be taking a plane, but no rush to reserve the tickets. Check your options, ask airline and the wedding planner for advice about when is it more convenient to book tickets for a bigger amount of people. Sometimes booking a year or few months in advance can be more expensive than booking a couple months before the wedding. Still, check your options immediately, so that you don't get too late and harm your budget :)

So, your major first steps are done. You can be calm for some time and wait for your wedding planner to approach you with the next ones. Also, stay tuned with this blog - I will post other planning advice and useful information for brides and couples. :)
